The male Painted Bunting is perhaps the most colorful and beautiful (in my opinion) songbird in North America. This time of year they are typically wintering far south of Virginia, but recently there has been a proliferation of sightings in our area. I found this one in a small park in a densely populated neighborhood in northern Virginia.
