Last night was the coldest day of the year with temperatures dipping into the single digits. It was still pretty frigid in the morning when I went for my daily hike. The cold didn’t seem to bother any of the birds; unlike ourselves they just plod along as usual and some even seem invigorated by the chill. This red-shouldered hawk was perched in a meadow looking for lunch.

This brown thrasher was busy flipping leaves and “thrashing” about as usual.

The golden-crowned kinglet was as hyperactive as always. Maybe he should switch to decaf.

I hope you were able to get outdoors and enjoy the crisp cold air.
